About Budget Friendly Family

As children, we didn’t grow up learning much about money. What we did learn came from a few classes in high school, one of which was to balance a checkbook. But that was pretty much the extent of our financial education.

Growing up, we had no idea how to make a budget, how to live frugally, or how to be financially stable. We were just never taught those things.

I guess we were expected to know them.. but that didn’t work out so well…

Instead, right out of high school and into college, we found ourselves having no idea what we were doing when it came to money. Even though we were working as we went through college, it was college. The last thing we worried about was saving money or budgeting.

As we graduated and became older, all of the knowledge that we didn’t know caught up to us. We found ourselves in tremendous debt and trying to survive day by day. One day, we said that’s enough and did everything we could to get out of debt and become financially stable.

We desperately wanted to live a life where we didn’t have to worry about how we were going to afford groceries this week.

We’ve had a few bumps in the road but the journey has paid off and we can finally say we are in that place. We can finally say no to spending, yes to saving, and yes to looking forward to our debt-free future.

Now, we are raising a family and want to share our tips, secrets, and any helpful information we can with others. Saving money and being frugal is even more important now that we have kids (two not so little and one little to raise).
